Social Media Zombies: Don’t be one

Social Media made REALLY easy!

Me as a zombi
Me as a zombie

Recently I watched the movie Warm Bodies. One sentence that stuck with me was “it’s easier not to feel” says R, a zombie. He’s right it is easier not to feel, just like it’s also easier to Retweet or reshare others information on social media. Or better yet, not contribute to this social phenomenon. But don’t just be a Walking Dead social media user. That, my friend, would be much too easy. Be a human.

I noticed that social media use is parallel to the movie Warm Bodies. You know the one where there is a zombie apocalypse and then the zombies miraculously start to turn human again. If you haven’t seen it, I would recommend it, cheesy but entertaining. This Zombie- apocalyptic-turn-human- with- a- beating-heart-and-feeling change is astonishingly the same cycle that social media users go through. First, you’re a zombie, then you start to see your heart beat, you have feelings and finally, you are now a human.

Zombie– you just start learning how to use social media. You continue to move around social media lifeless, watching people not contributing to what people are saying. Making some grunts and just watching what people have to say. Still questioning why waste your time on social media?

Heart Beat– Then you see something that sparks your interest. Your heart has a beat. Is that passion or love that you see in an area of interest? It might just be. You share some information or respond to other social media users. Maybe you just start liking or favoriting various posts. But, you don’t want to go overboard. You’re still a zombie. Now, with a heart you know can beat.

Feelings– As you creep around social media you realize that there are topics that really interest you. Which is very intriguing to you and makes you really, really, really start liking various topics on the internet. You start understanding how to use social media. You learn your voice. You. Get. It. You have feelings. You start resharing information, a lot. And even. You start not just responding on people’s pages, but yet you create posts. Correctly, with links, pictures, and possibly even using bit.ly.

Human– You have a pulse, you have color and you have connections. And not just ten or twenty other lifeless connections, but hundreds of connections. That are now initiating conversations with you. Liking, resharing and favoriting your posts. This makes you even more creative. Your social media sites now have human life. You even get the courage to start writing your own blog posts. You. Are. Human.

Ok, maybe this is a little far stretched. A zombie apocalypse, that won’t ever happen. But a lifeless social media brand will. Don’t be a zombie brand, be human with a heartbeat and lots of feelings. It may take a full 28 Days Later or possibly 28 Weeks Later to create a brand on social media, but that’s ok, just be human.

  1. I’m really loving the theme/design of your website. Do you ever run into any internet browser compatibility problems? A couple of my blog audience have complained about my blog not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Opera. Do you have any recommendations to help fix this issue?
